JONESBORO – The Kays Foundation granted $500,000.00 to establish “The Kays Foundation Endowment for Veterinary Excellence” to the new College of Veterinary Medicine at Arkansas State University.
“The Kays Foundation has supported Arkansas State University for over a century. One of the first gifts made to what was then the First District State Agricultural School was a herd of registered cattle to be used in the animal husbandry courses,” said Lucinda McDaniel, president of the Kays Foundation board.
Lucinda McDaniel said with the foundation’s history of providing livestock to Arkansas State University, the Board of Directors found it appropriate to create an endowment to help the future Veterinary School.
The Endowment is set up so that it receives $50,000.00 for the next ten (10) years beginning in December 2024 and ending in December 2033. In addition to the endowment the Kays Foundation gave an initial gift of $34,000 in December 2023 for immediate use in the purchase of unbudgeted materials and supplies.
The endowment is to provide funds for unbudgeted materials and supplies necessary for instructional purposes. This includes items such as livestock, feeds, medicinal supplies, diagnostic equipment, hardware and software essential to the teaching of veterinary students. It will also allow students to practice procedures before performing them on patients, giving them the confidence they need when dealing with their patients.
“The endowment is perpetual and will continue to allow the college to secure the most up-to-date materials to give students the very best education in veterinary science,” she continued. It will be a lasting commitment to future students of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Arkansas State University.
The Kays Foundation is proud to support the College of Veterinary Medicine on the Arkasnas State University Jonesboro campus.
