The Kays Foundation Awarded Two Grants to Arkansas State University Faculty
The Kays Foundation selected two grants to fund in the spring grant cycle totaling $60,052.00.
The first grant was awarded to Dr. Nicholas Balla, Director of Bands, in the Department of Music for the proposal titled “Sound of the Natural State Marching Band” in the amount of $13,440.00. The grant will be used to purchase fifteen (15) new piccolos. The instruments will replace the flutes currently used by the marching band. It will allow for better movement, better quality sound and student experience.
The second grant awarded was to Dr. Brook Fluker, associate professor of aquatic ecology in the Department of Biological Sciences for the proposal titled “Modernization of fisheries equipment in support of students in Biological and Environmental Sciences” in the amount of $46,612.00. The grant will provide funds to purchase two (2) new pieces of equipment to replace the existing equipment that is over twenty years old. It will purchase a backpack unit and a boat unit with modern field sampling equipment which is instrumental in conducting research in aquatic sciences.
The Kays Foundation is a private, nonprofit foundation supporting ASU by providing grants to support faculty, staff, departments, colleges, or other entities in order to further the teaching, research, and service goals of Arkansas State University.
