THE KAYS FOUNDATION AWARDS TWO NEW GRANTS FOR FACULTY RESEARCH AT (ASU) ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY.

August 2021 — Jonesboro, AR

The board of the Kays Foundation has awarded a grant to Arkansas State University faculty member Dr. Shivan Haran, to provide support for his project for the 2021-22 academic year. A proposal by Dr. Shivan Haran, associate professor and director of the mechanical engineering program in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, was funded in the amount of $17,049. Haran is planning a project titled “Engineering Initiative for Middle/High School Students,” which will encourage and develop student interest in engineering careers. This includes conducting engineering camps, after-hour activities with local and surrounding area school students, and other relevant interactions to promote interest in engineering and hands-on learning.

The board of the Kays Foundation has awarded a grant to Arkansas State University faculty member Dr. Gregory Cantrell, to provide support for his project for the 2021-22 academic year. A proposal by Dr. Gregory Cantrell, assistant professor of exercise science in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Sciences, was approved for $24,460.Cantrell will continue his research into bilateral asymmetry in people with multiple sclerosis through his project, titled “Relationship between H reflex modulation asymmetry, physical function, and postural control in people with multiple sclerosis.”

The Kays Foundation is a private, nonprofit foundation supporting ASU by providing grants to support faculty, staff, departments, colleges, or other entities in order to further the teaching, research, and service goals of Arkansas State University.
